body system

QuestionAnswer
metabolism the body's use of molecules for energy and growth
glucose a molecule that organisms can use to release energy and that is made of carbon, hydrogen, and oxogen atoms
oxogen a molecule that organisms get from the air or water around them and use to release energy
amino acids molecules that are building blocks of proteins
system a set of interacting parts forming a complex whole
digestive system the body system that takes in food and breaks it down
respritory system the body system that takes in oxogen and releases carbon dioxide
circulatory system the body system that transports molecules to and from all the cells of the body
energy the ability to make things move or change
protein a category of large molecules that preform important functions inside living things
startch a type of energy storage molecule made of many glucose molecules connected together
tissue a group of cells that work together to perform a specific job
heart muscular organ that pumps blood throughout the body
arteries blood vessels that carry oxogen rich blood from the heart to the body
veins blood vessels that return oxogen poor blood back to the heart
capillaries tiny blood vessels where the exchange of oxogen, carbon dioxide, carbon dioxide, nutrients and waste occurs between the blood and the cells
circulation movement of blood through the heart and blood vessels delivering oxogen and nutrients to the body and removing waste products
lungs main organ of the respritory system where gas exchange occurs
diaphram muscular structure that separates the chest cavity from the abdominal cavity and plays a key role in breathing
alveoli tiny air sacs in the lungs where the exchange of oxogen and carbon dioxide take place
indigestion proccess of taking food into the body
digestion the process of breaking down food into its smallest parts
respiration process by which oxogen is taking in and carbon dioxide is released by an organism
excretion to remove waste
homeostasis the body's ability to maintain a stable internal environment even when external change conditions change
voluntary you need to decide on the action before it happens, done by choice
involuntary happens without you thinking about it, occurs automatically
smooth muscle type of muscle found in internal organs that operates involuntary example the muscle that makes up the esophagus
cardiac muscle type of muscle tissue that makes up the heart and operates involuntary
cellular respertaion the chemical reaction between oxogen and glucose that releases into cells

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
