Layers of the Earth

TermDefinition
Seismic Waves produced by earthquakes and used by scientist to try and determine that Earth's interior is made up of layers.
Crust Outermost and thinnest layer of the Earth. Mostly made of rock.
Mantle Layer below the crust. Thickest layer. Made up of hot rock that can even flow.
Outer Core Layer below the mantle composed mostly of LIQUID metal.
Inner Core Innermost layer of the Earth composed mostly of SOLID metal.
Lithosphere Layer that includes the crust and upper part of the mantle, also known as tectonic plates
Asthenosphere Layer that is below the lithosphere and still part of the mantle. Composed of hot rock that can flow.
