Layers of the Earth
| Term | Definition |

| Seismic Waves | produced by earthquakes and used by scientist to try and determine that Earth's interior is made up of layers. |
| Crust | Outermost and thinnest layer of the Earth. Mostly made of rock. |
| Mantle | Layer below the crust. Thickest layer. Made up of hot rock that can even flow. |
| Outer Core | Layer below the mantle composed mostly of LIQUID metal. |
| Inner Core | Innermost layer of the Earth composed mostly of SOLID metal. |
| Lithosphere | Layer that includes the crust and upper part of the mantle, also known as tectonic plates |
| Asthenosphere | Layer that is below the lithosphere and still part of the mantle. Composed of hot rock that can flow. |
