Types of rock introduction

QuestionAnswer
what are the three types of rocks? Sedimentary, Igneous and metamorphic.
How is igneous rocks formed? The volcano's magma cooling down, forming crystals.
What is the difference between extrusive and intrusive igneous rocks? Extrusive is formed at the Earth's surface while intrusive is formed under the Earth's surface. Extrusive has smaller crystals while intrusive has larger crystals.
What does the crystal size inside tells us about the igneous rock? How quickly or slowly the magma took to cool
Small crystals=? Quicker cooling time of the magma.
How are sedimentary rocks formed? By being exposed to the natural weather events like erosion.
What is sedimentary rocks made of? Give examples. They are made of sediments like sand and clay.
What is the process to form sedimentary rocks starting with sediment? Deposited in layers by wind and gravity, slowly buried, compacted and cemented together.
What are some examples of sedimentary rocks? Organic sedimentary rocks like limestone, coal and chalk. They are formed from remains of plants and animals.
What is two factors that create a metamorphic rock? Pressure and temperature.
What is the cycle of these three rocks? Magma to Igneous to Sediment to Sedimentary to Metamorphic
How are metamorphic rocks formed? from others rocks that have changed by heat, pressure or both
What are two types of the metamorphic rock and their differences? Contact and Regional. Regional happens over large areas when two tectonic plates push together. Contact happens when rising magma meets rock.
Metamorphism is... a process where the rock undergoes different amounts of metamorphism
what does an increase heat do? the mineral rearrange inside the rock
