| bony fish | fish whose skeleton is made either partially or wholly of bone |
| cartilaginous fish | fish whose skeleton is made of cartilage instead of bone |
| ceratopsian | member of the group of dinosaurs that included Triceratops |
| cloaca | A common opening for digestive, excretory, and reproductive systems |
| closed circulation | blood stays inside the blood vessels |
| cranium | head |
| dinosaur | group of extinct land-dwelling creatures that resemble reptiles in some ways |
| gizzards | muscular rear portion of bird’s stomach that has horny plates to grind food |
| homeothermic | maintaining the same internal body temperature regardless of environment |
