Science the process of studying the physical and natural world based on observation and experimentation
Scientific Method observe, Question, Research, Hypothesis, Experiment, Test Hypothesis, Draw Conclusions, Report
Hypothesis an educated guess about what the answer to the question might be
Null Hypothesis specifies what we should observe if the hypothesis does not hold true
Observational Studies collects data in real world, no manipulation, only shows corrections
Experimental Studies collects data by manipulating variables, shows cause and effect, uses test and control groups
Independent Variable the factor being manipulated
Dependent Variable the response of an organism or the characteristic that is measured
Control Variable the constant during the experiment
Pseudoscience substantial reliance on anecdotal evidence, does not connect to other research, no peer view
Biology the study of living organisms, divided into many specialized fields that cover topics like anatomy, behavior, etc.
Species a distinct, identifiable type of organism
Phylogenetic Trees used to show evolutionary history
Natural Selection occurs when individuals with certain phenotypes produce more surviving offspring than individuals with other phenotypes
