| Biomass | organic matter that can be used as an energy source. (ex: wood, crops, and animal waste) |
| Conservation | a careful preservation and protection of something; especially : planned management of a natural resource to prevent exploitation, destruction, or neglect |
| Depletion | reduction in the number or quantity of something |
| Energy Transformation | the change of energy from one form to another. There are many different forms of energy such as electrical, thermal, nuclear, mechanical, electromagnetic, sound, and chemical |
| Fossil Fuels | a natural fuel formed in the past from the remains of living things. (ex: coal, oil, natural gas) |
| Geothermal Energy | Heat energy from within the earth |
| Hydropower | Energy that comes from the force of moving water |
| Nuclear Energy | Energy stored in the nucleus of an atom |
| Renewable Energy | A source of energy that can be replaced as it is used or that cannot be used up |
| Solar Energy | Energy radiated from the sun |
| Wind Energy | Energy harnessed from air in motion |
| Consequences | Something that happens as a result of a particular action or set of conditions |
| Energy | The ability to do work. The potential to generate power or heat that can be harnessed and utilized by humans |
| Reservoir | An area where water is collected for human use. Some are artificial (dams) and others are natural (lakes, oceans) A supply of any given source |
| Replenish | To fill or restore something to its previous level, or to replace what has been used |
| Uranium | Radioactive heavy metal that is an abundant source of nuclear energy that has 14 known isotopes used in radioactive dating |
| Natural Gas | flammable gas, consisting largely of methane and other hydrocarbons, occurring naturally underground (often in association with petroleum) and used as fuel |
| Coal | a sedimentary rock that's primarily made of carbon and is combustible |
| Oil (petroleum) | crude oil, is a flammable, smelly, oily liquid that is found in large underground deposits and is primarily made up of hydrocarbons |
| Dam | an artificial barrier constructed across a river or waterway to control the flow of water |
| Natural Resource | Materials provided by the Earth that can be used to make more complex products |
| Nonrenewable Energy | an energy source that cannot be replaced by natural means at the same rate that it is consumed |
