atom a particle that is the smallest and most basic part of an element
atomic theory the idea that everything is made of small particles
temperature the measure of how hot or cold something is
mass the amount of matter an object has
volume the amount of space an object takes up
weight A measure of the force of gravity on an object.
matter Anything that takes up space and has mass
attraction A term used to describe the electric or magnetic force exerted by oppositely charged objects or to describe the gravitational force that pulls objects toward each other.
State of Matter The form matter can take (e.g., solid, liquid, gas).
solid matter with a definite shape and volume that is made of vibrating particles
liquid matter with a definite volume but no definite shape
gas a form of matter that does not have a definite shape or volume
physical change a change in traits—such as color, size, and shape— that does not change what the substance is made of
chemical change the process where one or more kinds of matter changes into one or more different kinds of matter, usually caused by heat or mixing new substance
mixture a substance where different materials are put together but each keeps its own properties
solution a mixture where the substances are evenly spread out
Texture A physical property of a solid used to describe its surface.
Repel To force away or apart
Investigation An organized scientific study of the natural world that may include making systematic observations, asking questions, gathering information, analyzing data, summarizing results, drawing conclusions, and/or communicating results.
