What effect does gravity have on Earth? Earth pulls on. you and everything around you with the force of gravity.
Which way is. up? Which way is down? Up is pointing away from Earth. Down is pointing toward Earth.
How cn you measure Earth's pull? You can measure Earth’s pull by measuring weight on a scale. The stronger the pull, the higher the number will be. A hippo will be pulled more strongly than a mouse.
Why do we not always see all of the stars in the sky? 1. In 24 hours, the Earth spins. When Earth faces the sun we cannot see stars other than the sun. The sun's brightness overwhelms the othe stars. 2. Some stars are too far away for us to see. 3. Light pollution from Earth. 4. Earth's rotation.
What causes day and night? Day and night happen because Earth rotates (spins) on its axis. It takes 24 hours for Earth to make one full rotation. When your part of Earth is facing the Sun, it is day. The part that is facing away from the Sun is night.
How does the sun influence what stars we are able to see? The sun’s brightness overwhelms our ability to see other stars.
How does the distance of stars affect our ability to see them? The further the distance, the smaller and less bright they appear to be.
What causes the patterns of the stars we see across a year? As Earth spins to create day and night, it also orbits around the sun. When it moves the stars we can see changes. It takes 365 days for the Earth to orbit around the sun.
What does the dog days of summer mean? The “dog days of summer” refers to the hottest, most uncomfortable part of summer.
Does the Dog Star make it hotter in the summer? No, the Dog Star (Sirius) rises around the same time as the sun during late summer. Ancient cultures thought its light added heat to the sun, causing extreme temperatures.
