mid-ocean ridge an undersea ocean chain where new ocean floor is produced;a divergent plate boundary under the ocean
seafloor spreading the process by which molten material adds new oceanic crust to the ocean floor
subduction the process by which oceanic crust beneath a deep-oceanic crust sinks beneath a deep-ocean trench and back into the mantle at a convergent plate boundary
ocean trench an undersea valley that represents one of the deepest parts of the ocean
convection current a type of thermal energy transfer in which differences in temperature and density of fluids make them rise and fall
boundary a line that marks the limits of an area
convergent boundary boundary where two tectonic plates move together, or converge
divergent boundary boundary where two tectonic plates move away from one another
transform boundary boundary where tectonic plates slide past each other in opposite directions
