Allegro Fast tempo
Andante Slow, walking tempo.
Arco Playing with bow
Arpeggio Scale degree 1, 3, 5, and 8 of a scale.
Bar lines Vertical line of the staff that divides music into measures.
Beat Constant sound that keeps that music going.
Bow Lift Comma above a rest, lift your bow in circle
Common Time 4/4
Double Bar Two bar lines marks the end of section or piece
Dotted Half Note 3 beats in 4/4 time
Down Bow Pull the bow from frog to tip
Dynamics How loud the music is
Forte Loud- F
Half Note 2 beats in 4/4
Half Rest Hat-looking
Hooked Bowing two or more notes are played in the same bow direction
Key Signature Tells which notes are sharp or flat in a piece of music, for example, d major is a key signature.
Ledger Lines Extensions above or below the staff
Measure Small sections of music organizes beats.
Moderato Medium tempo
Measure Number A numeral placed above or below the staff, usually at the beginning of a line or section, to label measures
Music Staff How we read and write music, set of 5 lines and 4 spaces.
Natural sign and sharp sign a sharp sign (♯) raises a note's pitch by a half-step (semitone), while a natural sign (♮) cancels any previous sharp,
Piano(p) Play soft
Pizzicato Pluck strings
Quarter note One beat
Quarter rest One beat of silence
Repeat Sign tells you to play a section again, using symbols like a double bar with two dots
