| Plates | Pieces of the crust that move around due to convection currents in the mantle. |
| Crust | The outermost layer of the compositional layers. |
| Lithosphere | The physical layer that contains the very top of the mantle and the plates. |
| Asthenosphere | The thick, malleable magma the plates float on. |
| Mantle | The layer that has convection currents that cause the plates to move. Made mostly of magnesium and silica. |
| Outer Core | The Earth's only liquid layer. Composed of mainly iron and nickel. |
| Inner Core | The Earth's innermost and hottest layer. Made of mainly iron and nickel. |
| Subduction | When a denser, thinner plate slides under a thicker, less dense plate. |
| Volcano | A landform that spews pressurized magma out. |
| Rift Valleys | Valleys formed from diverging of two plates. |
