climate the average weather in a location including the temperature and amount of precipitation. (rainfall)
front where two different air masses meet
meteorologist a scientist who studies and measures weather conditions
wind speed how fast the wind is blowing
humidity moisture in the air
air pressure the amount of pressure of force from the air
temperature how hot or cold something is
air mass large body of air with the same temperature and humidity
atmosphere the gases that surround Earth
condensation the process by which molecules of water vapor in the air become liquid water
evaporation the process by which water molecules in liquid water escape into the air as water vapor
cold front Cold air advances toward warm air and pushes it up and out of the way.
warm front A front where warm air moves over cold air.
hygrometer measures humidity
barometer measures air pressure
wind vane measures wind direction
thermometer measures the temperature
Occluded Front a composite front formed when a cold front overtakes a warm front and forces it aloft.
Stationary Front a pair of air masses, neither of which is strong enough to replace the other.
Anemometer An instrument used to measure wind speed
thunderstorm a storm with thunder and lightning and typically also heavy rain or hail.
tornado A rapidly whirling, funnel-shaped cloud that reaches down to touch Earth's surface.
hurricane A severe storm that develops over tropical oceans and whose strong winds of more than 120 km/h spiral in toward the intensely low-pressure storm center
drought long period of dry weather; lack of rain; dryness
rain gauge An instrument used to measure precipitation.
