| Oscula | Larger openings in sponges were water exits. |
| Sessile | Sponges are firmly attached to the sea floor or some other surface. |
| Choanocytes | Flagellated cells that line the internal cavity of a sponge. |
| Amoebocytes | Sponge cells that have irregular amoeba-like shapes. |
| Spongin | Flexible resilient protein fiber that makeup the skeleton of some sponges. |
| Spicule | Tiny needles of silica or calcium carbonate that form some sponges skeleton. |
| Gemmule | Clusters of Amoebocytes encased in protective coats. |
| Medusa | Free floating, life form cnidarian and umbrella shaped. |
| Polyp | Body form a cnidarian that is attached to a rock or other object, mouth is located at the free end. |
| Cnidocyte | Stinging cells located on the tentacles of cnidarians. |
| Nematocyst | Small barbed harpoon Inside a cnidocyte. |
| Basal disk | Area of a hydra that produces a sticky secretion which is used to attach to the seafloor or other surfaces. |
| Planula | Zygotes that develop into free-swimming larvae. |
| Proglottid | Body segments of flatworms and tapeworms. |
| Fluke | Parasitic tapeworms that are in the class trematoda. |
| Tegument | Protective covering of endoparasitic flukes. |
