| Biodiversity | All the variety of life found in the world, or in a particular habitat or ecosystem at any given time. |
| Biodiversity Treaty | An international treaty (agreement) deigned to (1) promote conservation of Earth's biodiversity, and (2) to ensure the sustainable use, and equitable sharing of genetic resources. |
| Captive Breeding | The practice of capturing members of threatened and endangered species so that their young can be bred and raised in controlled environments and reintroduced into the wild. |
| Carrying Capacity | Largest number of individuals in a population that a environment can support. |
| Competition | The struggle between organisms to survive in a habitat that has limited resources. |
| Conservation | Protecting and preserving natural resources and the environment. |
| Demographic Transition | The changing pattern of mortality, fertility, and growth rates as societies cycle between demographic dominance. |
| Demography | The scientific study of population characteristics and dynamics. |
| Dispersion | The pattern of spacing among individuals within the boundaries of the population. |
| Ecotourism | A form of tourism, based on the enjoyment of scenic areas or natural wonders, which aims to provide a natural or cultural experience in environmentally sustainable ways. |
| Endangered Species | A species whose numbers are so small that the species is at risk of extinction. |
| Endangered Species Act (1973) | A law requiring the federal government to protect all species listed as endangered. |
| Endemic Species | A species that is found in only one area. Such species are especially vulnerable to extinction. |
| Exotic Species | A species that is not native to a particular region. |
| Exponential Growth | Population growth that is continuous because of the abundance of resources for an ever |
| Extinct | A species that no longer has any known living individuals. |
| Fertility Rate | The average number of children born to a woman in a given population during her lifetime. |
| Gene | A segment of DNA on a chromosome that codes for a specific trait. |
| Growth Rate | Rate of increase or decrease in a population. |
| Habitat Conservation Plan | A plan that attempts to protect one or more species across large areas of land through trade |
| Infrastructure | Fundamental facilities and systems serving a country, city, or area, such as transportation, communication systems, power plants, and schools etc. |
| Keystone Species | A species on which other species in an ecosystem largely depend, such that if it were removed the ecosystem would change drastically. |
| Life Expectancy | The average number of years an individual can be expected to live, given current social, economic, and medical conditions. Life expectancy at birth is the average number of years a newborn infant can expect to live. |
| Migration | The movement of organisms from one place to another caused any number of reasons. |
| Niche | An organism's particular role in an ecosystem, or how it makes its living (its' job). |
| Poaching | The Illegal killing or removal of wildlife from their habitats. |
| Population Density | A measurement of the number of organisms per given area of land. |
| Predation | An interaction in which one organism captures and feeds on another organism. |
| Preservation | To maintain of areas of land or water in their present condition, with as little human impact as possible. |
| Reproductive Potential | The maximum number of offspring that each member of the population can produce over time. |
| Survivorship | The percentage of newborn individuals in a population that can be expected to survive to a given age. |
| Threatened Species | A species that could become endangered in the near future. |
| Urbanization | An increase in the percentage and in the number of people living in urban settlements. |
| Least Developed Country | A United Nations list of countries that exhibit the lowest socioeconomic development and human development rate out of all countries in the world. |
