What is the functional unit of the kidney? The nephron – responsible for filtration, reabsorption, secretion, and urine formation.
What hormone regulates blood calcium levels by increasing them? Parathyroid hormone (PTH) – increases calcium by acting on bones, kidneys, and intestines.
What part of the brain controls breathing and heart rate? The medulla oblongata.
What is the main function of red blood cells? To transport oxygen using hemoglobin.
What structure prevents food from entering the trachea? The epiglottis
What hormone is responsible for water reabsorption in the kidneys? ADH (Antidiuretic Hormone)
What vessels carry blood away from the heart? Arteries
Where does gas exchange occur in the lungs? The alveoli
What is the primary function of progesterone? To maintain the uterine lining for pregnancy.
What part of the autonomic nervous system activates “fight or flight”? The sympathetic nervous system.
