| evaporation | the change from a liquid to a gas |
| altitude | height above sea level |
| humidity | the amount of water vapor in the air |
| leeward | the side of the mountain that experiences a warmer, dry climate |
| air pressure | a measure of the weight of air pushing down on an area |
| precipitation | water that falls to the ground as rain, snow, sleet, or hail |
| density | the amount of mass per volume; how compact the molecules of a substance are |
| sea breeze | movement of air from sea to land during the day when cooler air from above the water moves over the land, forcing the heated, less dense air above the land to rise |
| atmosphere | the mixture of gases that surrounds Earth |
| jet stream | a fast, narrow band of wind in the upper atmosphere that flows west to east and separates warm and cold air |
| condensation | the change from a gas to a liquid |
| windward | the side of the mountain that receives precipitation and has a cooler climate |
| convection current | the continuous rising and sinking of liquids and gases due to differences in temperature and density |
| land breeze | movement of air from land to sea at night, created when cooler, denser air from the land forces up warmer air over the sea |
