Period 8
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Cell wall | Original layer of nonliving material that surrounds the cells of plants and some other organisms. |
| Cell membrane | A cell structure that controls, which substances can enter or leave the cell. |
| Nucleus | A cell structure that contains nucleic acids, chemical instructions that direct all the cells activities |
| Organelle | A tidy cell structure that carries out a specific function within the cell |
| Ribosome | A small grade like structure in the cytopathic of a cell where proteins are made |
| Cytoplasm | The region between the cell membrane and the nucleus;in organisms without a nucleus, the region located inside the cell membrane. |
| Mitochondria | Road shaped cell structures that convert energy in food molecules to energy the cell could use to carry out its functions. |
| Endoplasmic reticulum | A cell structure, that forms maze of passage ways in which proteins and other materials are carried from one part of the cell to another |
| Golgi apparatus | Structure in a cell that receives proteins in another newly formed materials from the endoplasmic reticulum packages them and distributes them to other parts of the cells |
| Vacuole | Sat inside a cell that acts like a storage area. |
| Lysosome | A small round cell structure containing chemicals that breakdown large food particles into smaller ones. |
| Multicellular | consisting of many cells. |
| Unicellular | Made of a single cell |
| Tissue | A group of similar cells that perform a specific function. |
| Organ | A body structure that is composed of different kinds of tissues that work together |
| Organ system | Made up of different tissue |
| Specialized cells | |
| Division of labor | Beginning |
| List what is inside the nucleus? | |
| Describe the difference between animal and plant cell structures | |
| Describe what the endoplasmic reticulum does for ribosomes | |
| Where are ribosomes made and why are they so important? |
