Vocab Quiz 10

TermDefinition
Rotation to spin or make a circular motion on its own axis. The Earth spins on its axis.
Revolution to go all the way around something. The Earth travels around the Sun.
Axis an imaginary line that a planet spins on
Poles represent the northern and southern end of the Earth’s axis
Hemisphere means “half of a sphere”. The earth is divided into a Northern and Southern.
Equator the imaginary dividing line between the two hemispheres
Winter less direct sunlight; hemisphere tilts away from the Sun
Summer the sun shines more directly; the hemisphere tilts towards the Sun
Solstice the date that has the least amount of daylight during the year
Equinox a date with equal amounts of day and night
