Vocabulary for Seasons and Tides

| Axis | an imaginary line that passes from Earth’s North Pole |
| Earth’s tilt of Axis | Tilt of Earth’s Axis-23.5 degrees |
| Revolution | the movement of one object around another object |
| Rotation | Earth's rotation is its spin on its axis, which causes the daily cycle of day and night and takes about 24 hours to complete |
| Season | a period of the year with certain patterns of weather and day lengths |
| Solstice | A day of the year when the noon sun reaches its highest or lowest point in the sky |
| Equinox | a day when neither hemisphere of Earth is tilted toward or away from the sun, and day and night are the same length |
| Orbit | the curved (elliptical) path that one object takes around another |
| Northern Hemisphere | the half of the Earth that lies NORTH of the equator |
| Southern Hemisphere | the half of the Earth that lies SOUTH of the equator |
| Tide | the predictable rise and fall of ocean water that occurs along Earth’s coastline |
| Spring Tide | a tide with the biggest difference between high and low tide, the Sun, Earth and Moon are in a straight line |
| Neap Tide | a tide with the least difference between consecutive high and low tides, the Sun, Earth and Moon are in a ninety degree angle |
| Consecutive | regarding tides most commonly refers to the time between two high tides or two low tides |
