Physics
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Force | A push or a pull |
| Newtons | The unit force is measured in |
| Balanced force | Leads to no change in motion (not moving or moving at a constant speed) - Net force is equal to 0 |
| Unbalanced force | Leads to a change in motion (speeding up, slowing down, changing direction) - Net force is NOT equal to 0 |
| Net force | The combination/sum of all the forces acting on an object |
| Mass | The amount of matter in an object (measured in g or kg) |
| Acceleration | A change in the motion of an object (measured in m/s^2) - speeding up, slowing down, changing direction |
| Newton's 2nd Law | The acceleration of an object depends on the mass of the object and the force applied - F=ma |
| Newton's 1st Law | An object in motion will stay in motion, and an object at rest will stay at rest, unless acted on by an outside, unbalanced force |
| Newton's 3rd Law | For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction |
| Friction | A force that opposes relative motion between surfaces in contact |
| Gravity | The force of attraction between all objects that have mass or energy |
