What are the 5 main steps in the Scientific Method? Observation, Hypothesis, Experiment, Data, Conclusion (Oliver Has Everyone Dancing Crazy)
What is a Hypothesis? An educated guess to explain why something has happened
What step states whether a hypothesis was correct or not, it is always compared to existing knowledge? Conclusion
If hypothesis is INCORRECT what 2 steps can be taken? 1. Redesign the experiment or 2. Create a new hypothesis
If hypothesis is CORRECT what happens? A THEORY may be formed which may over time become a LAW/PRINCIPLE
Where are proven Scientific findings published ? A Scientific Journal
When designing an experiment why is it important to consider all variables? To ensure that the test is fair
What is the name of the one variable that you change every time you run the experiment? Independent variable
What is the name of the variable that is measured? Dependent variable
What is the name of the many variables that are kept the same every time you run the experiment? Control variable
Why should you use a control sample with an experiment? For comparison purposes
Why should you carry out a replicate experiment? To ensure reliability of results
When carrying out an experiment should the sample size be large or small? Large, to ensure reliability
What carrying out an experiment, what is meant by 'random selection? Sample size should include people of all ages and all sexes to ensure reliability of results
What do you call the scientific process where neither the scientist or the test group know who receives the drug being? tested and who receives the dummy drug Double Blind Test
Why is Double Blind Testing essential? It prevents bias
What is the correct term used for 'dummy drug' Placebo
What are Limitations of the Scientific Method Obstacles that prevent the method from full capability E.g - Extent of our knowledge or Ethical issues
