The Rock Cycle

Mineral A solid substance that occurs naturally
Igneous Rock Rock that forms when magma cools and solidifies (hardens).
Sedimentary Rock A rock that forms from compressed or cemented layers of sediment.
Metamorphic Rock A rock that forms from other rocks as a result of heat, pressure, or chemical processes.
Rock Cycle A natural process that describes how rocks change from one type to another over time.
Compaction The process of pressing sediments together tightly by the weight of materials above it
Cementation The process of sediments sticking to form solid rock.
Lava Molten rock on Earth's surface.
Magma Hot, liquid rock found deep within the Earth
