Nervous System

TermDefinition
Nervous system controls the actions of the body, store memories, and process information from the outside world
Neuron Another name for nerve cell
nerves Receive and send messages very quickly throughout the body
brain Stores and processes information and controls the body's actions
spinal cord Provides a link between the nerves and the brain so that they can communicate and work together
sensory organs Convey information about the environment to the brain, specifically information from the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and skin
reflex a simple, automatic response to a stimulus
stimulus something to which your body responds
autonomic nervous system controls involuntary actions
central nervous system brain and spinal cord
peripheral nervous system A division of the nervous system consisting of all nerves that are not part of the brain or spinal cord.
