| Term | Definition |

| Nervous system | controls the actions of the body, store memories, and process information from the outside world |
| Neuron | Another name for nerve cell |
| nerves | Receive and send messages very quickly throughout the body |
| brain | Stores and processes information and controls the body's actions |
| spinal cord | Provides a link between the nerves and the brain so that they can communicate and work together |
| sensory organs | Convey information about the environment to the brain, specifically information from the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and skin |
| reflex | a simple, automatic response to a stimulus |
| stimulus | something to which your body responds |
| autonomic nervous system | controls involuntary actions |
| central nervous system | brain and spinal cord |
| peripheral nervous system | A division of the nervous system consisting of all nerves that are not part of the brain or spinal cord. |
