Series/Parallel Circuits/Open/Close Circuits/Electricity

QuestionAnswer
What is a form of energy resulting from the existence of charged particles as a current? Electricity
Atoms are made of small parts which can have a what to it? Electric Charge
What happens to object in which electrons become positively charged? It builds up static electricity
Where are positive and negative charge located in clouds that cause static electricity to build up? Positive charges build in the top of clouds and negative charges build in the bottom
What happens when static electricity is released into the air and the air is heated in the clouds? It begins to lightning
How does static electricity develop from rubbing a balloon on your hair? The balloon transfers electrons to your hair and your hair transfers protons that attract to your hair.
What are electric charges in motion called? An electric current
In order for an electric current to flow freely, an electrical circuit must what type of circuit? Closed Circuit
What type of circuit has at least one break in its path to stop an electrical current from flowing? Open Circuit
A material through which an electric charge can move easily is called what? Conductor
What are some of the best conductors are made of? Copper, Gold, Silver, and Aluminum
What are materials that prevent the flow of electric charge known as? Resistor
What are strong resistors that can stop most electric currents to place or areas in towns or cities? Insulators
Insulators are mainly made of materials, what are they? Rubber, Plastic, Glass, or Dry cotton
What type of circuit has only one path in which it flows through cables or wire setups? Series Circuit
What are the 4 parts that create a basic series circuit? The battery (Power Source), The wire or cable, The on/off switch, To the light bulb/or other electric connection
What type of circuit has more than one path to follow? Parallel Circuit
An electrical circuit starts from what side of the battery and ends at what side of the battery? Start at the negative side of the battery and ends at the positive side of the battery
If an object has 12 positive charges and 7 negative charges, is the object positively or negatively charged? Positive Charged
If an object has 8 positive charges and 17 negative charges, is the object positively or negatively charged? Negatively Charged
If a series circuit had three light bulbs and the front light bulb was burned out or broken, will the other two light up and why? No, because a series circuit has one path and the burned out or broken bulb stop the current from flowing through the circuit.
A parallel circuit has three lights, and two lights are broken, does the third light work or not, and why? Yes, because the parallel circuit would have three pathways, even if two of the are blocked, the three pathway is still working a clear connection.
What is electromagnetic? Its magnetism created by an electric current
Is a light bulb a conductor or insulator? An Insulator
What is the speed of light? 186,000 MPS (Miles Per Second)
What is the only visible light that we see? The electromagnetic spectrum
What are the three types of light capabilities on materials? Transparent, Translucent, & Opaque
What are the three parts to an ATOM? Protons, Electrons, and Neutrons
How fast does sound energy travel in the air? 330 meters per second

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
