| Hormone | 1. A chemical that affects growth and development. 2. The chemical product of an endocrine gland. |
| Photoperiodism | A plant’s response to seasonal changes in the length of night and day |
| Critical night length | The number of hours of darkness that determines whether or not a plant will flower |
| Dormancy | A period of time when an organism’s growth or activity stops |
