ecology is the study of how organisms interact with each other
species is a group of individuals that interbreed and produce fertile offspring

biotic factors parts of an ecosystem that are living or used to be living

population size describes the number of individuals number presents
population density describes the number of individuals within a population per unit area
population distribution describes how organisms are arranged within area
age structure describe the relative numbers of organisms of each age within a population
age structure diagrams are visual tools scientists use to show the age structure of population
s ratio it is proportion of males to females
survivor ship curves organisms with a type I curves such as humans have higher mortality at older age
immigration is the arrival of individuals from outside
emigration is the departure of individuals
migration a seasonal movement into and out of an area
exponential growth when a population increased by a fixed percentage
limiting factors characteristics of an environment that limit population growth
Carrying capacity largest population size
logistic growth describes how population initials exponentials increased
density dependent factor the higher the population
density independent factors are limiting factors whose influence is not affected
biotic potential maximum ability to produce offspring in ideal conditions
