Water cycle The continuous movement of water on, above, and below the earth's surface.
Evaporation When heat from the sun changes water from liquid to gas
Transpiration The process when plants release water vapor through their leaves into the air.
Sublimation When ice or snow changes directly into water vapor without becoming liquid first.
Condensation When water vapor cools and changes back into liquid droplets, forming clouds.
Precipitation Any form of water that falls from the sky, such as rain, snow, sleet or hail.
Air mass A large body of air that has the same temperature and humidity throughout
Jet stream A fast, narrow band of strong winds high in the atmosphere that moves weather systems around the earth.
Front The boundary where two different air masses meet.
Thunderstorm A storm with rain, thunder, lightning and sometimes strong winds.
Lightning A bright flash of electricity that happens during a thunderstorm.
Thunder The sound made by the rapid expansion of air after a lightning strike.
Hurricane A large, rotating storm that forms over warm ocean water and has very strong winds.
Storm surge A rise in ocean water level caused by the strong winds of a hurricane.
Tornado A rotating column of air that touches both the cloud and the ground, causing powerful winds and damege
Sinkhole A hole in the ground that forms when he the land above collapses into an empty space underground.
Wildfire A large, uncontrolled fire that spreads quickly through forests or grasslands.
Muck fire A fire that burns underground in soil rich in dead plants.
Climate the average weather conditions in an area over a ling period of time.
Latitude the distance north or south of the equator, measured in degrees
topography The shape and features of the land, such as mountains, valleys and plants.
Elevation the height of a place above sea level
Surface currents A large streams of ocean water that move in regular patterns across the surface of ocean
weather the condition of the air at a certain place and time, such as temperature, rain, or wind.
humidity the amount of water vapor in the air.
relative humidity how full of water vapor the air is compared to how much it could hold at that temperature.
dew point the temperature at which air becomes full of water vapor and dew ( tiny drops) begin to form.
air pressure the force of the air pressing down on earth's surface.
wind the movement of air caused by differences in air pressure.
visibility how far you can see through the air.
