TermDefinition
Luminosity the actual brightness of an object such as a star
Apparent magnitude the brightness of a star as seen from Earth
Hertzsprung-Russell diagram a graph that shows the relationship between a star's surface temperature and absolute magnitude
Parallax an apparent shift in the position of an object when viewed from different locations
Gravity a force of attraction between objects that is due to their masses and that decreases as the distance between the objects increase
Mass a measure of the amount of matter in an object
Sun the star closest to Earth
Consellation a region of the sky that contains a recognizable star pattern and that is used to describe the location of objects in space
Distance the total length of the path taken between a starting point and end point
