Chapter 3 plants

lesson 1

TermDefinition
Chlorophyll Green pigment found in plant, algae, and sometimes bacteria chloroplasts
photosynthesis a plant that uses carbon dioxide gas and water to make oxygen
tissue cells that preform similar functions in an organism
chloroplast green jelly beans that make food
vacuole a large storage sac that can expand and shrink
Cuticle The outermost layer of the skin of vertebrates; epidermis.
vascular tissue a system tubelike structures in side a plant through witch water, minerals and food move.
organelle A differentiated structure within a cell, such as a mitochondrion, vacuole, or chloroplast, that performs a specific function.
chromatin A complex of nucleic acids and proteins, primarily histones, in the cell nucleus that stains readily with basic dyes and condenses form chromosomes during cell division.
mitochondrion An organelle containing enzymes responsible for producing energy
endoplasmic reticulum A network of a membranes and eukaryotic cells that synthesizes and transports lipids and proteins.
lysosomes An organelle in the eukaryotic cells containing degradative enzymes enclosed in a membrane.
Golgi body A cell organelle also known as the Golgi apparatus or Golgi complex, that acts as the cell's "post office" for processing and packaging proteins and lipids.
What are the three main characteristics of plant share They are multicellular eukaryotic organisms that are made of cellulous, they have specialized structures for photosynthesis "like leaves", and they undergo a life cycle that includes both hoploid and diploid stages like alternatives of generations.
The 2 things that a plant needs and the 2 things it makes during photosynthesis A plant needs carbon dioxide and water. And it produces glucose and oxygen during photosynthesis.
2 reasons why cell wall s are important for plants A cell wall provides structural support and protects the plant cells, helping them maintain shape and resist external pressure and play a crucial role in regulating water in takes and maintaining turgor pressure.
5 thing a plant needs to survive on land A plants needs sunlight, water, air, nutrients from the soil, and a suitable temperature to survive on land.
How is a plant cell different from an animal cell Primarily in the presence of rigid cell walls, chloroplast ,and a large vacuole In the plant cell witch are not in an animal cell?

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
