Chapter 3 plant

Lesson 1

TermDefinition
Chlorophyll A green pigment found in the chloroplast of plants ,algae, and some bacteria
Photosynthesis The process by which plants and other organisms capture the in sunlight and use it too make food
Chloroplast a structure in the cells of plants and some other organisms that captures energy from sunlight and uses it to produce food
Vacuole a second inside of cell the act as a storage area
Tissue A group similar cells that perform a specific function
Organelle A tiny cell structure that carries out a specific function within a cell
Cuticle The waxy waterproof flavor covers the leaf stems of most plants
Vascular tissue A system of tubelike structures inside a plant through which water, minerals and food move
Endoplasmic reticulum A cell structure that forms a maze of passageway in which proteins and other materials are carried from one part of the cell
Lysosomes A small, round cell structure that forms containing chemicals that break down large food particles into smaller ones
Golgi body A structure in a cell that receives proteins and other newly formed materials from the endoplasmic reticulum, packages them, and distributes them to other pa
Mitochondrian Rod-shaped cell structures that convert energy ion food molecules to energy the cell can use to carry out its functions
Chloromatin Contains genetic material the instructions is for directing the cell’s functions in the chloromatin ensure the leaf cells grow and divide to form more leaf cells
What are the three main characteristics that all plants share? Nearly all plants are autotrophs, produce their own food.green algae contain many cells, cell walls
What are two things that a plant needs and two things that makes during photosynthesis Doing photosynthesis, a plant uses carbon dioxide, gas and water to make food and oxygen
What are two reasons why cell walls are important for plants Plant cell walls contain cellulose, a material that makes the walls rigid. Because the cells are rigid, plant cells look like small boxes
What are five things that a plant needs to survive on land? They must have ways to obtain water and and other nutrients from the surroundings, retain water, support their bodies, transport materials, and reproduce
Label a plant cell diagram and why it’s different from an animal cell Cell wall vacuole chloroplast and it is different from animal cells because cell walls make onions crunchy

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
