Study the Plant Structure Vocab Words for Quiz 1

TermDefinition
Plants Need sunlight, carbon dioxide, water, space
Photosynthesis converts light energy into chemical energy
Energy Ability to perform work or change something (sunlight + water + carbon dioxide=energy)
Phloem (Flow-em) Tissues that transport sugars to all parts of the plant
Stomata (Stow-Muh-Tuh) tiny openings on the underside of most leaves that allow carbon dioxide to enter and release oxygen as a by product of photosythesis.
Transpiration the evaporation of water from a plants leaves later replaced by water from the roots.
Xylem (Zi-luhm) water is absorbed by a plant's roots and travels up the center of the stem through specialized tissues called zylem.
