Assist to Ambulate
| Question | Answer |

| First Step | Adress Client by name and introduce self to Client by name. Explain procedure clearly and thoroughly. |
| Second Step | Privacy is provided with curtain, screen, or door |
| *THIRD STEP | Before assisting to stand, ensure client is wearing non-skid shoes/footwear |
| Fourth Step | Before assisting to stand. ensure bed is at a safe level |
| Fifth Step | Before assisting to stand, check/lock bed wheels |
| *SIXTH STEP | Before assisting to stand, client is assisted to sitting position with feet flat on the floor |
| Seventh Step | Before assisting to stand, applies transfer belt securely at the waist, over clothing/gown |
| Eighth Step | Before assisting to stand instructs Client to assist with standing on a prearranged signal such as "on 3" |
| Nineth Step | Stands facing Client, positioning self to ensure safety of self and Client during transfer. Counts to 3 to alert Client to begin standing. |
| Tenth Step | On signal, gradually assist Client to standby grasping transfer belt on both sides with an upward grasp, maintaining stability of Client's legs by standing knee to knee, or toe to toe |
| Eleventh Step | Walk slightly behind and to one side of Client for a distance of 10 (ten) feet, while holding onto the belt |
| Twelfth Step | Assists Client to bed and removes transfer belt |
| Thirteenth Step | Signaling device is within reach and bed is in low position |
| Fourteenth Step | Wash hands. Skill complete. |
