Cell Reproduction

Mitosis and Meiosis

QuestionAnswer
Mitosis is the replication of what kind of cells? Body cells - from head to toe
Meiosis is the replication of what kind of cells? Sex cells - egg and sperm
The number of chromosomes in mitosis will ________ Stay the same - in a human 46 to 46 or 23 pairs.
The number of chromosomes in meiosis will ______ Cut in half. In a human, 46 goes down to 23
A great way to remember the phases of mitosis is the saying - I-PMAT - C
Before mitosis takes place, chromosomes need to double. This is the longest phase since so many codes need to be copied over. This phase is called - Interphase
In this phase of mitosis, centrioles start to become excited, chromosomes PAIR up. Spindles start to be made and the cell membrane starts to break down. Prophase
In this phase of mitosis, centrioles are on opposite sides of the cell. Spindles are attached to the chromosomes. Chromosomes are lined up in the MIDDLE. Nucleus is gone. Metaphase
In this phase of mitosis, chromosomes are ripped into two. The spindles pull so hard that chromosomes are separated. Anaphase
In this phase of mitosis, TWO new nuclei are created. The number of chromosomes are exactly the same as the original cell! YAYYYYYY Telophase
This is when the cytoplasm pinches and makes two completely new daughter cells. Cytokenesis
In a plant cell, golgi bodies send gooo to the middle to make a new cell wall. This new cell wall is called a - Cell Plate
The reason that meiosis cuts the number of chromosomes in half is because - 23 from the egg, and 23 from the sperm makes 46! Perfect number for a human.
When I am graphing independent and dependent variables, ______ would go on the X axis, and _________ would go on the Y axis? IV on the X DV on the Y`
What is missing - Organism - Organ systems - ____________ - Tissues - Cells Organs

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
