Light Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Mirror Smooth surface that reflects an image of what is in front of it.
Reflection The bouncing off of light rays from the surface of an object such as a mirror or other shiny surface.
Lens Piece of clear material, such as glass or plastic, that bends light rays as it passes through
Prism A solid glass or plastic object that light can pass through, refracts, and splits it into the colors of the rainbow.
Refraction The bending of light rays, bending light means that it changes direction and/or speed.
Absorb take is all in; does not pass through
Medium a substance, (solid, liquid, or gas) through which light can or cannot travel through
Transmit cause something to pass on from one person or place to another
