Thoroughbreds Weather Vocabulary

TermDefinition
air mass A large body of air that has consistent temperature and humidity
blizzard Winter storm that lasts at least 3 hours with high winds and low visibility
dew point Temperature at which air is saturated with water and condensation forms
fog A stratus cloud that forms when air is cooled to its dew point near the ground
front The boundary between 2 air masses of different density, moisture or temperature
humidity The amount of water vapor held in the air
hurricane Large, swirling low pressure system that forms over the warm Atlantic Ocean.
isobar A line on a weather map that shows points of atmospheric pressure (high & low)
isotherm A line on a weather map that shows points of equal temperatures (hot & cold)
meteorologist A person that studies weather
station model Shows all the weather conditions at a specific location
tornado A violently rotating column of air that crosses land in a narrow path
