Transmission

PI-03 Electricity Transmission

TermDefinition
transmission lines high-voltage wires that carry electricity over long distances
shield wires wires placed above the transmission lines to protect them from lightning strikes
conductors materials (like copper or aluminum) that allow electricity to flow through them easily
resistance the opposition within any material to the movement of electric current
insulators materials that do not allow electricity to flow through them easily (ceramic discs)
voltage the force that pushes electrical energy (like a "pressure" that pushes electricity through wires)
current the flow of electric charge in a conductor between two points (like the "amount" of electricity flowing)
distribution the process of delivering electricity to homes and businesses
