What are the four main types of tissue in the human body? Epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissue
What is the main function of epithelial tissue? It covers body surfaces, lines organs and cavities, and forms glands for protection and secretion.
What is connective tissue responsible for? It supports, connects, and protects body structures; includes bone, cartilage, fat, and blood.
What are the three types of muscle tissue? Skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscle.
What is the main function of nervous tissue? To transmit electrical impulses for communication between the brain, spinal cord, and body.
What are the two main layers of the skin? The epidermis (outer layer) and dermis (inner layer).
What type of tissue makes up the epidermis? Stratified squamous epithelial tissue.
What is the purpose of the dermis? It provides strength and elasticity, contains nerves, blood vessels, and hair follicles.
What is the function of melanin in the skin? Melanin provides skin color and helps protect against UV radiation.
What is the function of subcutaneous tissue (hypodermis)? It connects skin to underlying muscles, insulates the body, and stores energy as fat.
