nails

TermDefinition
Nails Protects the ends of the finger and toes from injury, helps pick up small objects, and grip the floor when we walk.
nail body portion of the nail that is visible, pink due to blood flowing through underlying capillaries
Free Edge part that may extend past the distal end of the digit, white due to no underlying capillaries
Nail root portion that is buried in a fold of skin.
Lunula whitish semilunar area of the proximal end of the nail body. While due to the thickening of the stratum basale in that area.
Eponychium Skin over the nail root, at the proximal border of the nail and consists of stratum corneum.
