Mixtures & Solutions

QuestionAnswer
Mixtures are a combination of what three things? Solids, Liquids, & Gases
When two or more substances combine, but do not chemically react, what is this known as? A Mixture
When an ingredient in a mixture does not keep its physical properties, what is this called? A Solution
How do you separate the ingredients in a solution? By increasing the heat energy to it and this process causes evaporation to occur.
What gets dissolved in the process of mixing solutions? A solute
What is water known as in a solution? Universal Solvent
How does a person separate the substances from a solution? By increasing the heat energy and causing the evaporation process to occur so that it can be left behind in the container, while the vapor goes into the air.
What is known as the procedure amount of one substance that will dissolve in another? Solubility
What is the process know when a substance is added and readded to water will not dissolve, it will reach its? Saturation Point
What are the two types of mixtures? Heterogeneous and Homogeneous
What is a heterogeneous mixture? A mixture composed of two or more substances that can be separated easily.
What is a homogeneous mixture? A mixture that dissolves into another creating a balance in which both substances are together but can't be seen where it begins or ends.
What happens to sugar molecules during the process of dissolving? They break apart into pieces too small to see and spread evenly between the water molecules.
If you continue to add sugar into a glass of water, it will no longer dissolve, why? The water contents can only absorb a particular amount sugar, and the sugar will reach its saturation point.
Why do water molecules and sugar molecules connect so easily? Because both the water and sugar molecules are attracted to each other by their positive and negative charge that connects them together.
