Adv SCI Test 1.

The Forms of Energy and Circuit knowledge

QuestionAnswer
Radiant energy is energy in the form of light
Thermal energy is energy that all objects have; it increases as the object’s temperature increases
Electrical energy is energy carried by electrical currents (e.g. batteries, wall sockets, circuits: parallel and series circuits.)
Mechanical energy is the energy due to motion and position of an object.
Nuclear energy is energy stored in the nucleus of the atom
Chemical energy is energy that is stored in chemical bonds (like body fat & wood)
Energy is transferred in a series circuit due to the power source, such as a battery.
The battery would transfer the electrons through the conductive wires, alligator clips, and then we would see the light bulb conduct the energy from chemical energy, to electrical energy, and then to radiant and thermal energy.
The Law of Conservation of Energy states that energy is never created or destroyed. The only thing that changes is the form in which energy appears
Work is done when a force causes an object to move in the same direction that the force is applied. Work = force x distance
Examples of Forms of Energy: Chemical energy = gasoline Electrical energy = tv’s, computers, and CD players Mechanical energy = a baseball flying through the air Radiant energy = X-rays Thermal energy = rubbing your hands together rapidly
Chemical energy = Electrical energy = Mechanical energy = Radiant energy = Thermal energy = Chemical= gasoline, Electrical= tv’s, computers, and CD players Mechanical= a baseball flying through the air Radiant= X-rays, light bulb Thermal= rubbing your hands together rapidly, causing heat
If all four switches below are turned on, which light bulb will light up? (W is wood, S is silver, and Y is yarn.) The circuit with Silver
What will happen when a light bulb is removed from a circuit, leaving a gap? The circuit wont work, because it will be an open circuit
What will happen when a light bulb is added on the left side of a circuit (where a wire is). There are two other Light bulbs in the circuit. The other Light Bulbs will dim

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
