Science Vocab - 1st 6 Weeks

QuestionAnswer
Matter Anything that has mass and takes up space.
States of Matter solid, liquid, gas
Mixture Two or more substances put together that CAN be easily separated.
Solution A mixture of two or more substances dissolved to form one substance (DIFFICULT to separate).
Boiling Point Temperature at which a substance changes from liquid to gas. Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius.
Melting Point Temperature at which a substance changes from SOLID to liquid.
Freezing Point Temperature at which a substance changes from liquid to SOLID. Water freezes at 0 degrees Celsius.
Mass The amount of matter in an object.
Volume The amount of space matter takes up.
Property A characteristic that can be observed or measured.
Investigation To try to find out about something, such as a scientific problem.
