| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Variables | factors in an experiment that can change (time, location, etc...) |
| Conclusion | statement that supports or refutes your hypothesis |
| Independent variable | one factor that is purposely changed in an experiment |
| Dependent variable | data you are measuring during an experiment |
| Controlled variable | factors in an experiment that remain constant in each group |
| Control group (set up) | group that is compared to the experimental group (no change is expected) |
| Law | a proven theory...it cannot change. (law of gravity) |
| Theory | a generally well accepted conclusion (theory of evolution) |
| Controlled experiment | experiment in which all variables remain constant, except for one |
| Experimental group | experimental group in which you purposely change one thing...group you are "testing" |
| Hypothesis | an educated guess, "If...then" statement |
| Causal Relationship | a connection between two variables where a change in one variable (the cause) directly leads to a change in the other variable (the effect) |
| Correlational Relationship | a statistical link between two or more variables, indicating that they tend to change together, but it does not establish a cause-and-effect connection between them. |
| Quantitative Data | information that can be counted or measured and expressed in numerical form, allowing for statistical analysis. |
| Qualitative Data | non-numerical information that describes qualities, characteristics, and concepts, rather than quantities |
