| Polar molecule | A molecule with a partial positive charge on one end and a partial negative charge on the other. |
| Hydrogen bonding | The attraction between the positive end of one water molecule and the negative end of another. |
| Cohesion | The attraction between like molecules. |
| Adhesion | The attraction between unlike molecules. |
| Surface tension | The force that acts on the surface of a liquid, tending to minimize the surface area. |
| Capillary action | The ability of a liquid to rise in a narrow tube against the force of gravity. |
| Specific heat | The amount of heat energy required to raise the temperature of a substance by a specific amount. |
| Density | The mass of a substance per unit volume. |
