| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Brittle | Easily cracked or broken |
| Conductive | Able to transfer heat or electricity easily |
| Conductor | An object or material that is able to transfer heat or electricity easily |
| Ductile | Capable of being shaped into a thin wire |
| Dull | Not reflective or shiny |
| Element | A substance made of only one type of atom |
| Insulator | An object or material that is not able to transfer heat or electricity easily |
| Luster | The ability of a surface to reflect light |
| Lustrous | Reflective; shiny |
| Malleable | Able to be bent, molded into another shape, or pounded into a thin sheet without breaking |
| Metalloids | Elements that have properties of both metals and nonmetals |
| Metals | Substances or elements that are mostly solids, lustrous, good conductors, malleable, and ductile |
| Nonmetals | Substances or elements that are brittle, dull, and poor conductors |
| Periodic Table | A chart that organizes the chemical elements by their similar properties |
| Rare Earth Elements | A group of metal elements with similar properties that includes scandium, yttrium, and the lanthanides |
| Semiconductor | A substance whose electrical conductivity is between that of a conductor and an insulator. |
