|---|---|
| Acceleration | the rate at which velocity changes over time |
| Newton's Second Law of Motion | a net force will cause an acceleration in the same direction as the net force. The greater the net force on an object, the greater the acceleration. F=ma |
| Net Force | the combination of all of the forces acting on an object |
| Newton's Laws of Motions | a series of laws developed by Isaac Newton that describe the relationship between force and motion |
| Unbalanced Forces | a set of forces exerted on an object that change the motion of that object |
| Newton's First Law of Motion | an object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless the object is acted upon by an unbalanced force. |
| Newton's Third Law of Motion | when two objects interact, each object exerts a force on the other object. The forces are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction |
| Balanced Forces | a set of forces on an object that cancel one another out so that there is no overall force on that object; the combined force is the same as zero force |
| Speed | a measure of how fast something moves; rate of motion |
| Velocity | the speed of an object in a particular direction |
