| Science: | A way of learning more about the natural world. |
| Scientific theory: | An attempt to explain the pattern observed repeatedly in the natural world. |
| Scientific Law | : A rule that describes a pattern in nature. |
| System: | collection of structures, cycles, and processes that relate to and interact with each other. |
| Life Science: | The study of living systems and the ways in which they interact. |
| Earth Science: | the study of earth systems and the systems in space |
| Physical Science: | the study of matter and energy. |
| Hypothesis: | a reasonable and educated possible answer based on what you know and what you observe. |
| Infer: | to draw a conclusion based on what you observe |
| Controlled experiment: | changing one factor and observing its effect on another while keeping all other |
| Variable: | factors that can be changed in an experiment. |
| Constant: | factors that are not changed in an experiment. |
| Dependable variable: | is the factor measured or observed during an experiment. |
| Independent variable: | is the factor that you want to test. |
| Model: | any representation of an object or an event used as a tool for understanding the natural world. |
| Physical model: | model that you can see and touch |
| Idea: | Describe how someone thinks about something in the natural world. |
| Description: | is a spoken or written summary of observations. |
| Explanation: | is an interpretation of observations |
| International system of Units: | Internationally accepted for measurement “IS”. |
| Accuracy: | description of how close a measurement is to an accepted or true value. |
| Precision: | Description of how similar or close measurements are to each other. |
| Critical Thinking: | Combining what you already know with the new facts that you are given to decide if you should agree with something or not. |
