Eye Anatomy – Descriptions

| Cornea | The cornea is the clear, dome-shaped surface that covers the front of the eye. It helps focus light that enters the eye. |
| Retina | The retina is a thin layer of tissue at the back of the eye that senses light and sends images to the brain through the optic nerve. |
| Lens | The lens is a transparent structure behind the iris that changes shape to focus light on the retina for clear vision. |
| Iris | The iris is the colored part of the eye that controls the size of the pupil, regulating how much light enters the eye. |
| Pupil | The pupil is the black circular opening in the center of the iris that allows light to enter the eye. |
| Optic nerve | The optic nerve carries visual information from the retina to the brain, where images are processed. |
| Eyelid | The eyelid is a fold of skin that protects the eye, spreads tears, and helps keep the eye moist. |
| Tear duct | The tear duct drains tears from the eye into the nose to keep the eye lubricated and clear of debris. |
| Ophthalmologist | specialist doctor, performs surgeries. |
| Optometrist | have an eye exam, prescribe glasses. |
| Optician | assembles and adjusts glasses/lenses. |
