*Cell Wall Provides rigid support and protection for cell
Cell Membrane or Plasma Membrane Flexible support and protective layer that regulates the movement of materials in and out of cell
Nucleus Command center of the cell and stores genetic material
Nucleolus Is inside the nucleus and makes ribosomes
Ribosomes Protein synthesis (they make proteins)
Endoplasmic Reticulum (Rough and Smooth E.R.) Smooth ER transports lipids (fats) within the cell. Rough ER transports proteins within the cell.
Golgi Apparatus or Golgi Body Packages and distributes proteins outside the cell
Mitochondria Makes energy for cell called ATP
Cytoskeleton Provides shape /support of cell and moves organelles within cell
Vacuole Storage of substances/wastes *Please Note- Plant cells have one large central vacuole
*Chloroplast Location of photosynthesis
Lysosomes Digest food and destroy foreign substances
Centrioles Organize the spindle apparatus during cell division
Cilia Small hairlike things on the outer part of a cell that help the cell move
Flagella Looks like a tail that helps the cell move
Cytoplasm The fluid like substance filling all space inside a cell
