Test 1
SI, Sci Method, Controlled Experiment
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Observation | This is made with our senses |
| Metric System | contains units that are based on the number 10 |
| Hypothesis | usually stated in an "If... then..." statement |
| Experiment | This is the step in the Scientific Method where you test your hypothesis |
| Publish/Conclude | This is the step in the Scientific Method where you share your results |
| Record Data | This is the step in the Scientific Method where you get the results of your experiment |
| Using opinions | This is NOT a step in the Scientific Method |
| Centimeter | The best measure for the length of a pencil in Metric units |
| Millimeter | The best measure for the thickness of a fingernail in Metric units |
| Kilo | The Metric unit that represents 1000 |
| Metric System | The standard of measurement in science used worldwide |
| Liter | The Metric unit of measure for liquids |
| Temperature | A measure of how hot and cold something is |
| Gram | The Metric unit for weight |
| Hecto | The Metric unit that represents 100 |
| Deka | The Metric unit that represents 10 |
| Deci | The Metric unit that represents tenths |
| Milli | The Metric unit that represents thousandths |
| Centi | The Metric unit that represents hundredths |
| Meter | The Metric unit for length |
| Controlled Experiment | a test in science where you change only one thing (called the variable) at a time, while keeping all the other things the same |
| Independent Variable | the one thing you can change or control, like the amount of water you give plants, to see if it affects something else. |
| Dependent Variable | the thing you measure to see if it changes because of something else. |
| Control | what you keep the same for all parts of your experiment to make sure you're only testing one thing at a time. |
| Scientific Method | a step-by-step way to solve problems and answer questions by observing the world, making an educated guess (a hypothesis), doing an experiment to test that guess, and then looking at the results to draw a conclusion. |
