Scientific Method

TermDefinition
Question/Problem What you want to learn more about and get an answer to
Research Gathering information about your question and topic
Hypothesis An educated guess about the outcome of an experiment
Experiment A procedure to test your hypothesis
Analysis Look for patterns in your experiment and data and draw conclusions about your hypothesis
Data the information and facts you collect while testing something out to answer a question
Conclusion Was your hypothesis correct?
Variable Anything that can change or be changed
Independent Variable The variable that you change
Dependent Variable The variable that is observed and is affected by change
Controlled Variable The variable that is kept the same
Qualitative Data Data/information that is observed (taste, feel, appearance, smell, etc)
Quantitative Data Data/information that is measured (length, weight, height, etc)
